About

A Philadelphia-based teaching artist, educator, and creative leader dedicated to building meaningful learning experiences through art.

Sarah Folger is a Philadelphia-based art educator and teaching artist with nearly 20 years of experience working with young people across the city. For the past four years, she has taught in Philadelphia schools, working primarily with middle school students while also developing arts programming for early childhood classrooms. Her teaching experience includes KIPP Philadelphia, Boys’ Latin Middle School, and Richard Allen Preparatory, where she designs interdisciplinary, project-based curricula that connect technical art skills with history, culture, science, and community. In addition to her classroom teaching, Sarah has founded a National Junior Art Honor Society chapter, developed and sustained after-school arts programs, and organized arts-focused field trips that expand students' learning beyond the classroom.

From 2015 to 2022, Sarah served as a museum educator at the Penn Museum, where she developed and wrote curriculum for the Unpacking the Past program, creating legacy learning experiences that continue to be used today. During her time there, she also designed and led innovative partnerships, including a collaboration with the Philadelphia Juvenile Justice Services Center School, where incarcerated youth created a digital mosaic project inspired by the museum's ancient art collections.

Sarah has a deep background in community-based arts education and has led large-scale public art projects as a teaching artist with Mural Arts Philadelphia. She has also taught in partnership with organizations such as Fleisher Art Memorial and Spiral Q Puppet Theater and continues to collaborate with local community partners throughout Philadelphia. She is also a long-time mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters, where she has supported youth for over a decade.

Rooted in a commitment to accessibility, creativity, and youth voice, Sarah brings a collaborative, curious, and joyful approach to her teaching practice. Whether working in classrooms, museums, or community spaces, she strives to create meaningful arts experiences that empower young people to explore ideas, build confidence, and see themselves as creative thinkers.
