Middle School Education:
2024-2026
Boys Latin Middle School and Richard Allen Preparatory Charter School
From 2023 to the present, Sarah Folger has taught middle school art across two schools, developing project-based curricula that balance strong artistic foundations with cultural exploration, collaboration, and real-world application. Through lessons in color theory, composition, perspective, and a variety of artistic processes, students built technical skills while engaging in creative problem-solving and critical thinking.
Throughout the program, students explored printmaking by designing original patterns that were printed on hats and sold during the school's Winter Art Exhibit. They investigated the history of mosaics through visits to local archaeology museums before collaborating to create a recycled bottle-cap mosaic installed at their school's entrance. Additional projects included jewelry making, fabricating oversized junk food sculptures, and designing community-focused corner stores through an interdisciplinary collaboration with the Spanish department that integrated concepts of urban planning and architecture.
Sarah's middle school curriculum encourages experimentation, innovation, and multiple approaches to creative problem-solving. By grounding projects in technical skill while inviting students to think beyond conventional solutions, she fosters an inclusive studio environment where diverse ideas, perspectives, and artistic voices are celebrated.
